Welcome to the Revolution - The Two-Wheeled Journo Blog

Hi, my name is Lee Robinson. I am a broadcast journalist, podcaster, and I have a strong interest in environmental writing and storytelling. You could say this blog, and my podcast, not to mention my TikTok channel, are journeys into the world of climate change, transport, conservation, politics, and everything in between. I have made it my mission to write, record, and produce valuable information that breaks through the noise of disinformation. We live in unprecedented times and it is often hard to differentiate between what is fact, fiction, or political lobbying. I will do my best to give an honest view of how I see things.

Why am I called the The Two-Wheeled Journo? Put simply, I am a lifelong cyclist - not a sports racer - but a get on my bike to do some shopping, go on a day adventure - maybe a week, type cyclist. I don't wish to set records other than the ones I feel need setting straight. I love nothing more than getting about under my own steam. I am an advocate for sustainable travel, a writer and journalist with a head full of questions - and a podcast recorder and microphone slung in my pannier - just in case I find a good story. Stop press: those stories - well I find them everywhere I go - cycling has a habit of opening up the real world to you.

I have spent a great deal of time talking to people from all backgrounds - as a journalist I get paid to do that! I have seen up close and personal what a real mess we are in. I've spoken to people who see the same and are trying to make things better for us all. It is a battle of those who want a world that is pleasant for everyone versus a world where money and greed come before anyone and anything. The climate is in crisis - I know this for a fact as I have seen it with my own eyes. I used to live in New Street, Upton Upon Severn, Worcestershire - the most flooded residential street in the UK (until flood defences were built). I was also a volunteer with the inshore lifeboat team and have seen the power of climate change through flooding events such as that which took place in July 2007 (and continue to take place). I was involved directly - and featured on the cover of Time magazine! Climate change is the defining issue of our time - although to listen to main stream media, you really wouldn't think so. I want to redress that balance and tell the stories that need to be told, as well as open debate, to ensure critical voices are heard.

Why I’m Doing This

There is so much noise, so much misinformation and disinformation, and crap floating about that I get frustrated everytime I see it. At present I am seeing a lot more - just think Donald Trump and you will start to see where I am going with this. I also see stats and slogans but what does it all mean - and more importantly who is behind all of this. As a journalist, I am trained to question - as an independent journalist I am free to think and report what I see.

I know there is a way to cut through the noise, report reality, and open up intelligent debate. Part of my trademark is that I practise what I preach. I cycle everywhere - shopping, leisure, work - yes work! I'm known to plan my interviews and cover 50 to 60 miles per day - does it take longer? Yes it does. Do I discover more stories along the way? Yes I do. I find stories that need telling everywhere I go - from local communities to endangered landscapes. I get to see first hand what is going on behind the headlines, the bluster, and the political use of our press and media.

This blog and podcast are my attempt to find answers—and share them in a way that feels honest, grounded, and maybe even a bit hopeful.

What You Can Expect

My intention is to bring you the stories from the road - I will try to keep them as regular as I can. I need to feed the algorithms in order to be heard - that's tough when you are not only a freelance journalist, but also a communications manager with a community radio station. It's a tough brief but honest communications is my stock-in-trade.

This is my promise to you: I will do my best to get out there to find the stories and interviews that matter - from activists, scientists, conservationists to everyday people doing extraordinary things in the name of helping this planet.

I'm determined to dig the big stuff - climate change, energy policy, environmental justice - but also the local, the lived, and the overlooked. The most powerful stories are often found right on the doorstep. It's as good a place as any to start.

And yes, there’ll be a good helping of cycling chat too. Because two wheels are more than a way to get from A to B. They're a symbol of something slower, simpler, and infinitely more sustainable.

Join the Ride

Join me as I journey through the ever-changing environmental landscape, it is our journey, not just my journey. If like me, you care deeply about nature, the planet, our future, or you just want to hear an open and honest take on things, then you have come to the right place!

Please do subscribe to this blog, tune into the podcast, and if you see value then please share it. I am but one voice in the crowd, although you can help me amplify that voice. Let's build something positive - a new kind of conversation. Honest, human, and maybe just a tiny bit revolutionary.

Thanks for being here.

See you on the road.

Lee aka The Two Wheeled Journo!
